Hi, above all, I write this article for non-commercial purpose, so some applications, websites or kind of... are used as examples or demos, I just want to share to everyone about the interesting method that brings me to an incredible brand new journey, the journey of taking care about and feeding the seeds of love. Moreover, this not the first time I publish an English post on Medium, but this is very special for me in some kind.

Actually, I participated in an IELTS course for 2 years ago, and in some perspectives, I have, you know, some ‘patterns’ and skills that are related to an IELTS writing test. But I forgot a lots. I wish I could do a better 'writing style’ with beautiful and dangerous words, phrases or just making paragraph becomes more diversity but I can not learn all the thing again and then continue to write this article. So, at least in the current time, I am going to complete this one and then see you guys again on my next English post, may be in a book’s review, hope it will be better.

The opening

At the current time, I am in the company, so, I will go home, take a deep breath session and tell you then!

Now, it might be too soon to talk about what I did for myself is an achievement or not, it is just a healthy activity for anyone who want to get a better mental heath. So, this article should be focused on what I got in the first 10 days of practicing meditation and what I connected to my 'emotional activities’. Fortunately, before writing these lines, I was given a book named “The seeds of love” last week by my coach life, Tammy. I have just enjoyed over 40 pages of this book and I definitely think that there will be so many surprises in next chapters. May be it seems like this book does not relate to the title of this post, but if you think that, you are wrong. The word “mindfulness” in Vietnamese means “chánh niệm", is the main topic of this book or one of the most important features in meditation . It is very hard to serialize or analyze and for me, I am not still understanding it, truly. And there are still many like “self awareness”, “anxiety”….

It takes time!

-My coach life, Tammy, said.

And now, “I began”

My tool

Back to our main or we will drive too far from where did we start. I was introduced to 2 applications are Calm and Headpsace. I use Headpsace just for practicing first steps in 10 days of basic session. After that, you must buy subscription to follow the rest. And talk about Calm, I have known about this app for a long time ago but until now, I was really using it. This app has so many contents and I have not explored it yet. Currently, I just use Calm for training deep breath sessions. If you are using iOS or Android devices, they can be easily downloaded from the app stores, otherwise you can enjoy the web version from their web pages if your mobile devices do not support these 2 above platforms.

Screenshots of these 2 app from my phone, enjoy them if you have time

Oh, I forgot, there is still one more hidden ‘weapon’, but I will talk about it later.

What I got and learnt

Before knowing about meditating, I just thought that it might be or must be 1-hour (or more) of silence and getting rid of everything outside, just you and yourself. It is true, but not at all. Nothing come easily, I mean for someone, spending 30 minutes or more for the first time meditating might be easy, but to me, nah. I was too greed, instead of using the 3-minute session, I jumped into the 5-minute session for 2 days respectively and I really felt tired for this. I know this is not meditation because of just feeling tired, uncomfortable or painful at my back. After that, I asked my coach and see told me that, it is a long road journey and I must pass it step by step, 10s, 20s, 30s, 1min, 3min and so on, my first experience is just relax and calm.

Secondly, I realized the important of a deep breath. It is very simple to understand, when your body is not supplied enough oxygen, you will not clear enough to do anything. And a deep breath come. People are taking breath everyday, one of my friend said that “It seems like you do not take breath”, yes, we do this all day. But after that, you are continuing to work, to exercise, to have stress, angry, tired and more. As I am following on Calm, here is my 10-seconds-of-taking-a-deep-breath session.

Using your mouth or your nose, it is not necessary to care about it, you just need to feel comfortable. But try to use your stomachache, according to my grandfather, it is very good.

  • 4 seconds of breathing in
  • Holding your air in 2 seconds
  • Breathing it out in 4 seconds
  • Repeat
A session of taking a deep breath

Finally, to close it, I will make it shortly. You will be distracted by your thoughts or some noises outside. But trying to direct our concentration to the body and breath. And do not forget to ask for anyone who have experience in this field.

Conclusion

I love this image so I post this in here, not for any other purposes (Image source: Flickr)

When I was writing this, I had just finished my 4 km workout (running), it was not what I expected. The tracking app did not work well, I felt tired in early steps. So what I got is, the preparation before meditating is very important, let make anything that could distract you as few as possible, and you will feel free.

Happy meditating and always!
